What is Origin Access:Origin Access launched on 12 January 2016 for PC. It was one of the first subscription bases games available and gave you access to the Origin Vault which was filled with all different games. Older games was free to play on Origin Access and new games was able to be tested in advanced for 10 hours before it had to be purchased. On 31 July 2018, Origin Access launched their Premier Vault allowing players to pick between the cheaper BASIC option and the much more expensive PREMIER option. *Read more below The Launch of Origin Access Premier:When Origin Access PREMIER was launched on 31 July 2018, not everyone was happy with this. Alot of the long time subscribers were not happy that the price was so inflated by 400% from the original price. This was greeted with some backlash, but soon died down as Origin released more and more games from Indie developers as well as games from Microsoft and Westwood studios. The main selling point for Origin Access Premier was the fact that ALL games could be played for free, by simply paying the Monthly or Yearly subscription fee, Please note that this not not include the UBISOFT games sold in the EA store since 2019. What is the Difference between BASIC and PREMIER:Well, we will start with the total amount of games for the price. ORIGIN ACCESS BASIC: Allows you to play 249 games for free as long as you keep your subscription running. This includes all the basic games and some DLC's to the older games. There is however as of time of writing now games from the 2020 season in the BASIC VAULT. The current price for the subscription for OAB is $4.99/ Month or $29.99/Year in the US. ORIGIN ACCESS PREMIER: Allows you to play all the 249 games in the basic Vault plus an added 18 game titles including new releases from EA in 2020. There is also some of the games that has special PREMIER EDITIONS with special DLC and packs just for PREMIER users and many older games that has full DLC packs available for free that the Basic pack does not give you. The current price for the subscription for OAP is $14.99/month or $99.99/year in the US. It is also important to mention you get a 10% discount on an purchases with both of the packages. Is The Price Right:Before I get to my opinion of which is better, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to make sure you check the price of your local Origin store. I am a South African and therefore with the current exchange rate I only pay $2.77/Month or $16.63/Year US for the BASIC Vault. The PREMIER Vault is about $11.08/Month and about $66.51/Year US respectively. This can make quite a big difference in your hobby budget. BASIC OR PREMIER:Finally we get to the main Question... BASIC OR PREMIER Well taking into consideration the games available on BASIC vs PREMIER and the price, which to me is very important, I have found that Basic is more than enough for me. If you are someone that likes the latest and greatest games 7 days before the actual release date and you are willing to spend $10 per month extra, then PREMIER is for you, but if you are like me and you have burned your fingers a few times on Pre-orders, then you will rather wait a few months on the basic package till all the kinks and glitches are sorted out and you play the game safely with between $70 to $120 per year in your pocket, ready for those Steam Sales or to buy an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Conclusion:Safe your money, buy a subscription for Origin Access Basic and use that money to do something fun with, Steam sales, subscibe to Xbox Game Pass or upgrade your PC for next years games.
